White Cargo
Ep 5: Lazy Bartender By Drinksdirect.NG
Absolutely strange, yet weirdly compelling
The white Cargo is a sumptuous, decadent take on a cocktail. The drink is sweeter than sweet, yet with a weird, herbal undertone. It’s a cocktail that reminds us about our early ice cream-licking days before we hit the legal age to consume alcohol, way before the Instagram days. It’s totally unnecessary, yet here we are writing about it almost a century on from when it was first published in Judge Jr’s 1927 cocktail book ‘Here’s How.’
INGREDIENTS
- Nutmeg (optional)
DIRECTION
- Add all ingredients to a shaker with plenty of ice and shake until thoroughly mixed. Pour without a strainer.
- Dust some grated nutmeg to garnish.

National Beer Can Appreciation Day
Appreciating Artistry & Talent
Advanced thermodynamics and quantum physics tell us beer cans are more efficient to pick up. But history reminds us again today it wasn’t always that way from the inception of Beer drinking. If we don’t remember where we’re from, how will we know where we’re going?
National Beer Can Appreciation Day is here to remind you of the artistry and talent that goes into those simple aluminium cans that hold this precious elixir of life.
History of National Beer Can Appreciation Day
Beer has been one of the staples of health and diet for thousands of years, and there are those who say that access to Beer is one of the reasons that the slaves of Egypt were able to build those huge pyramids. The ability to preserve calories and not rot cannot be underestimated! While back then the beverage was held in clay vessels, the container of choice today is the aluminium can. This tradition was first started in 1935, and on the heels of it came a never-ending parade of varieties of labelling.
How to celebrate National Beer Can Appreciation Day
- Buy beer: Your appreciation starts simply with a visit to your best drinks store OnlineDrinksdirect.NG
- Marvel at those beautiful beer can containers: the shape, the contours, and all those numbers stamped on the bottom, a close look will tell you that labelling is serious business.
- Drink with friends: Enjoy the wonders of canned Beer with fellow friends who appreciates the artistry and talents that goes into making such magic.

Sassy Sangria
Ep 7: Lazy Bartender By Drinksdirect.NG
Red & Sassy
Ingredients
- 1 bottle of Chianti red wine
- 1/2 – 1 cup (120-240ml) orange juice (preferably freshly squeezed)
- 1/4 cup orange liqueur (optional)
- 2 tablespoons brandy (optional)
- 400-500 g (3-4 cups) thinly sliced or cubed fruit of your choice (apples, pears, peaches, halved grapes, hulled and halved strawberries, orange, lemon, lime)
- Spices of your choice: 2 cinnamon sticks , 2 star anise pods, 3 whole cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, whole black pepper
Instructions
Extra Sangria Recipe Tips
- Just before serving, you can add up to 1 cup of cold sparkling water/club soda to make a sparkling sangria with a more subdued wine flavor.
- If you prefer a sweeter sangria, you can make a simple sugar syrup, chill it, and add it to the sangria. To make the sugar syrup, mix together 2-4 tablespoons sugar with an equal amount of hot water and stir until sugar dissolves.
- This is my favorite recipe for warm sangria. Just before serving, place all ingredients in a large saucepan and heat on medium-low, stirring occasionally, until mixture is hot but not boiling. Don’t let it boil or else the alcohol will evaporate. In this version, use your favorite spices and winter fruits such as apples, pears, and oranges.

Fresh Bellini Cocktail
Ep 6: Lazy Bartender By Drinksdirect.NG
Let’s get Fruity & Fizzy
INGREDIENTS
- 4 medium ripe peaches (1 ½ pounds), plus a few peach slices for garnish if desired
- 1 bottle Prosecco, chilled
INSTRUCTIONS
- First, make peach purée: Peel your peaches slice them in half, and remove the pits. Place the halved peaches in a blender or food processor, and blend until the purée is completely smooth. Peach purée is best served chilled, so place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to cool.
- When you’re ready to serve, pour 2 ounces (¼ cup) chilled peach purée into a Champagne flute. Pour in some chilled Prosecco, being careful not to overflow the glass. Gently stir with a spoon to combine.
- Top off the drink with another splash of Prosecco and garnish with a peach slice, if desired. Serve at once!
Bellinis are sparkling Italian cocktails made with two simple ingredients: Prosecco and peach purée. Its fizzy and fruity nature keeps it at the top of most Cocktail Menu.
Fresh Bellinis Cocktails are easy to make and perfect when you’re hosting brunch or soaking up a lazy summer weekend. They’re a fun alternative to a mimosa and feel a little fancier, maybe because they’re Italian.

Old Fashioned Cocktail
Ep 5: Lazy Bartender By Drinksdirect.NG
Old Skool And Trendy
Ingredients
- 2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey
- 1/4 ounce simple syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 sugar cube, or 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Orange peel or Luxardo cherry, for garnish
Directions
- Place a sugar cube or sugar in an old-fashioned glass and saturate it with Angostura bitters. Muddle or stir to mix.
- Add the whiskey, fill the glass with ice, and stir well
- Express the orange peel over the drink before dropping it into the glass: Twist up the peel and give it a good squeeze (directed toward the glass, not your eyes) and bits of citrus oil will spray into the drink. Add a cherry if you like.
You cannot get more classic than a classic Old Fashioned. This humble concoction of four ingredients—whiskey, sugar, Angostura bitters, and water—is quite literally the cocktail that started it all. It was that particular (and rather unremarkable) recipe that appeared alongside the first-ever printed use of the word “cocktail” way back in 1806.
Yes, even the old-timers of the 1880s considered it to be an old-school drink, our guess is human beings will be drinking Old Fashioned until end times because the damned drink will not be cool.
The sweetness makes it smoother than a lot of other whiskey-based drinks, though it remains a strong-jawed, spirit-forward option. Fortunately, with few ingredients, it’s also an easy cocktail to master.

Negroni Cocktail
Ep 4; Lazy Bartender By Drinksdirect.NG
Classic Italian Vibe
Ingredients
- 1/2 oz. gin
- 1/2 oz. red vermouth
- 1 1/2 oz. Campari
- Orange twist, to garnish
Directions
- Pour the Gin, vermouth and Campari into a mixing glass or jug with ice. Stir well until the outside of the glass feels cold
- Strain into a tumbler and add 1 large ice sphere or some fresh ice, and garnish with an orange slice, using a blood orange when in season.
Looking for a classic cocktail with an Italian vibe? The Negroni is one of the easiest and simple mixes you can treat yourself to. Maybe it’s the perfect cocktail. With equal parts of Campari, Gin, and sweet vermouth, it couldn’t be easier to make proving that, like Stooges and Musketeers, the best things really do come in threes.
Intended to be sipped, it’s refreshing on a hot day and after the close of a busy day. It’s youthful and yet, next to an Old Fashioned. It lends the drinker a certain continental sophistication. And it doesn’t skimp on the ABV.

Strawberry Basil Mojito
Ep;2 Lazy Bartender By Drinksdirect.NG
A pink-hued Summer
Ingredients:
- 1/2 lime cut into 4 wedges
- 5 fresh mint leaves
- 5 fresh basil leaves
- 3 large strawberries
- 1/2 ounce stevia simple syrup
- 1-ounce Rum ( Checkout vareties of Rum )
- Seltzer water to finish
Directions:
- Place the mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a shaker or mason jar. Muddle the ingredients together with a muddler or the end of a wooden spoon.
- Add 2 more lime wedges along with the basil, strawberries, and stevia simple syrup then muddle the ingredients again.
- Add Rum and fill the shaker or mason jar with ice. Cap whichever tool you are using and shake to combine.
- Pour the entire mixture into a glass and top with seltzer water to finish.
- Garnish with the remaining lime wedge and serve.
Add basil to anything and I’m all for it! Basil is a powerful herb that can have anti-inflammatory benefits, antimicrobial properties and, you guessed it, plenty of antioxidants to go around. Strawberries and mint are great additions as well. Mint, in particular, is great for indigestion and calming an upset stomach.
I love that a traditional mojito doesn’t include any straining – the mint leaves and lime are both kept in the drink for an extra boost of nutrition. This cocktail or mocktail recipe is a little twist on the traditional mojito!

Different Glasses to serve wine with
There’s a Glass for every wine
Navigating the world of wine glasses can be very daunting most especially for individuals new to the industry of wine drinking, but same isn’t said about Connoisseur’s as they know their way around a glass cabinet blindfolded, picking the right glassware that best fits any particular wine that’s being served. As trivial as this knowledge may seem, selecting the right glassware for any event/occasion can be a minefield as it portrays a touch of mastery to the art of wine drinking, and bringing to live the science behind the purpose of creating different shapes of wine glasses. This article aims at giving our esteemed readers more insight into the basic principles of wine drinking with the appropriate wine glass.
Basic Anatomy Of a Wine Glass
A wine glass is composed of four parts – the base, the stem, the bowl, and the rim. The base is what gives the glass its stability. From there, the stem elongates the glass while giving the customer something to hold on to without raising the temperature of the wine within. It also prevents fingerprints from getting on the bowl of the glass.
The bowl sits atop the stem. The bowl is arguably the most important feature of the glass. It should be large enough to comfortably swirl the wine without spilling or splashing it, and it should be tapered to retain and concentrate the aroma of the wine as full-bodied red wines need room to breathe and to release their aroma.
The uppermost part of the bowl is where the rim lies. A thinner rim is less distracting to drinkers as they sip their wine, and a smooth rim will not impede the wine as it flows from glass to mouth. Thicker, rounder rims are the sign of a cheaply made glass, and while the glasses serve their purpose, they may be more distracting to the drinker.
What Is the Difference Between Glass and Crystal?
All crystal is glass, but not all glass is crystal. In general, the lead content of glass determines whether it is classified as glass or crystal. The presence of lead softens the glass in crystal, making it more easily cut and engraved. Unlike traditional glass, crystal is heavier and diffracts light. In traditional lead glassware, the lead has a tendency to leach out of the crystal. To combat this, today’s crystal glassware is typically unleaded. Crystal wine glass enhance the aromas in wine and offer an elegant design, making them perfect for high-end dining rooms and formal events.
Crystal Wine Glass
Glass Wine Glasses
Type of Glasses ideal for serving red wine
Below are the typical characteristics of a red wine glass:
- Large glass with a full, round bowl and large opening
- Opening enables you to dip your nose inside to detect the aroma
- Full bowl provides air contact for the complex aromas and flavors
- Increases the oxidation rate, which smooths out the complex flavors
White Wine Glasses
Below are the typical characteristics of a white wine glass:
- Bowl is more u-shaped and upright than a red wine glass
- Slightly smaller bowl than red wine glass
- The shape enhances and preserves aromas while also maintaining the wine’s cool temperature
Dessert Wine Glasses
Below are typical characteristics of a dessert wine glass:
- Usually smaller due to the high alcohol content of dessert wines
- Dessert glasses usually also direct wine to the back to the tip and back of the mouth to allow for adequate sweetness detection
Sparkling Wine & Champagne Glasses
Below are typical characteristics of sparkling wine glasses:
- Upright, narrow bowl to preserve carbonation and flavor
All-Purpose Wine Glasses
If a single glass type is all that your circumstances permit, an all-purpose wine glass is the way to go. Although the experience may not be the same as when you use the proper glass type for the application, these glasses offer a similar function at a lower cost and increased efficiency.
Whether sweet or dry, white or red, robust or light, wine requires very specific serving procedures in order to reach its full flavor potential. Ultimately, this is all narrows down to personal preference, as everyone’s palette is differs, and the benefits of certain wine glasses vary from person to person. At any rate, there’s no reason to think you’ll ever be judged by your stemware, and you don’t have to be a professional Connoisseur to choose the right glass.
