Pairing Vodka with Food
Lazy Bartender By Drinksdirect.NG
Pairing spirits like vodka with food and getting the combination perfect is almost a form of art. It’s far trickier to pair vodka with food than the usual suspects due to its high alcohol content, incredibly strong flavour profile, and the heating element that comes along with any strong spirit.
But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth exploring. Spirits such as vodka tend to have a lot of complexity of flavour ranging from peppery to citrus, salty and even buttery, which means a lot of opportunities to marry vodka to the dish. The key to pairing food with vodka is that this isn’t your traditional meal, per see.
This means a lot of effort, time and research go into getting vodka pairings right, customers tend to respect and respond to the exclusive and rare nature of the concept. So, here are a few tips to get you started.
Smoked Salmon
Vodka doesn’t generally have a smoky flavour to it, but smoked salmon goes really well with vodka. And the best part about eating salmon is that it is super healthy for you. Salmon is predominantly present in the Mediterranean climate and is the perfect follow up to a few vodka shots that you had not so long ago. Smoked salmon also goes really well with vodka-based cocktails such as Mojito and Moscow Mule.
Steak
When we steak, it doesn’t mean we are including roasted potatoes along with it. The steak alone is a great companion to vodka and doesn’t overpower the much-loved alcohol. We suggest that you stick to steak while sipping on your cocktails, as shots are not really the time to be patiently cutting into your steak. Rare steak is perfect for the pairing and is going to definitely be a crowd favourite.
Dessert
Vodka isn’t just good with savoury courses though – it can be delightful with sweet desserts too. During pudding is the ideal time to break out the flavoured vodka, like chocolate or orange vodka to complement vanilla, truffle, or fruit puddings. Try Ciroc Coconut Vodka, or Smirnoff chocolate Vodka to pair with your sweet desserts.
Cheese
If you’re really indulging, one of the great highlights of a dinner can be the post-dessert cheese course. You can absolutely pair vodka with cheese, as the vodka will enhance the subtle tastes in mellow cheeses. A particularly good combination is a mixed cheese board with a mellow, versatile vodka like Grey Goose vodka orange

5 Ways You Can Enjoy Vodka
Lazy Bartender By Drinksdirect.NG
Let’s Vodka-Up
A wise man once said vodka goes with just about anything. It’s a true statement, but some things work way better than others. Vodka offers the perfect backbone for any number of drinks. Better still, you don’t need a PhD in mixology to enjoy its versatility.
Stereotypes say the clear spirit is only suitable for shots straight out of the freezer or sipped as a Vodka Martini or alongside some caviar. These things are accurate as far as they go, but that doesn’t fully explain vodka’s vast potential.
We’ve assembled a go-to list of the possible best ways to sip vodka when you are thirsty. They range from the well-known to the unexpected, and everything in between. So, take the leash off your favourite bottle of vodka and let it run free, mingling in the glass with these great options.
1. Enjoy your vodka straight
Pure vodka tastes fairly neutral and has a full-bodied mouthfeel. One common way to drink this alcoholic beverage is to take shots of vodka from shot glasses at room temperature. When drinking high-quality vodkas, consider sipping the liquid slowly from a tumbler glass.
2. Enjoy your vodka chilled.
Chilled vodka has less bite and a slightly thicker texture. Place ice cubes in a tumbler with vodka or place a bottle of vodka in the freezer until it is ice-cold before serving.
3. Mix your vodka into a cocktail.
Use vodka in a mixed drink to enhance its flavour and dilute the drink’s alcohol content. Some popular vodka cocktails are simple, such as a vodka tonic with tonic water, while others are more complicated and require several ingredients. Vodka pairs well with a variety of juices, including orange juice, lime juice, grapefruit juice, and lemon juice.
4. Infuse your vodka with flavour.
Although flavoured vodka is available in stores, you can make your own infused vodka drinks by pouring vodka into a sealable glass jar along with other ingredients. Popular ingredients for vodka infusion include thyme, cucumber, coconut, mint, and blackberries. For a sweeter option, place a handful of gummy candies into a glass jar of vodka. After several hours, retrieve the gummies for a sweet, alcohol-infused treat.
5. Drink your vodka alongside traditional foods.
In some countries of the world, straight vodka is typically served alongside appetizers. Try pairing food with your vodka to complement its flavour. Some foods that work well alongside vodka include sausages, salmon, fresh cucumbers, olives, and pickles.

This method is a hit at parties and adds a bit of fun to a gathering and can also kick start your guest onto the dance floor.

Top 5 Reasons why you should have a Mini-Kegerator in your Home
Bringing the pub Home
Home beer dispensers have come on a long way in recent times, offering everything from kitchen counter-friendly devices to proper pub-like taps, with support for different kegs and refill systems depending on the model you spring for. The pubs maybe open and just a drive away from home, this technology can be the pride of garden parties and matchday viewing sessions all through the seasons. Either way, you owe it to yourself to enjoy a perfectly poured cold beer at home like you have it in the pub.
Off the top of our heads, there are many reasons why you need a kegerator in your life, but beer is a good reason. Here are other benefits;
- Your home is the bar. However, one of the biggest and best reasons for getting a kegerator is convenience. Not only can you avoid driving, traffic, finding parking, and paying for gas but there are no lines at your kegerator and it’s always you pouring your favorite beer or beverage! Plus, you can be comfortable at your own home bar with the game that you want to watch on the TV. Finally, at the end of the night, you don’t need to worry about sobering up and driving home or paying for a ride home, you’re already there!
- It saves you money. Depending on how much beer you usually drink and the types of beer you buy at the pub, buying a keg of beer could save you quite a bit of money. Like most items that you buy in bulk, the upfront cost of a beer keg may seem less in cost, but once you breakdown how much it costs per pint, you’ll quickly see the savings add up. And after a few kegs, you’ll have saved enough to offset the initial cost of the kegerator itself. It’s more of an investment, with beer.
- You’ll Save On Fridge Space. Instead of packing your fridge with bottles and cans, taking up space, you can have a separate freestanding kegerator for your beverages with reusable kegs. Now, when you’re entertaining you don’t have to worry about if your fridge can contain 60 beers and all the food for your guests. You can pick up a keg that will suit your needs and won’t take up that precious refrigerator space. If you really want to save space in your home, you may want to consider outdoor/commercial kegerator If you really love throwing large parties, these are great for entertaining large crowds and an impressive upgrade to your outdoor barbecue area. In that case, invite us over and we’ll help you finish those kegs.
- They’re Better For The Environment. When your beer gets stored in cans or bottles, drinking it produces more trash to the environment and just winds up in a landfill, or the ocean. Not to mention, all of those cans and bottles take resources to create. A keg is reusable, as the glasses you pour your beer into. When you have your own kegerator, your beer drinking will come with less waste to the environment and the Eco-system at large.
- Temperature and Quality control. A big advantage of owning a kegerator is having a fresh beer every time and any time you want it. When stored at the right temperature, beer and other beverages maintain their quality and stay fresh for long periods of time. If you’re concerned that you just won’t drink a whole keg fast enough for your own beer dispenser to make sense, think again. If you store it in the right conditions, a keg of beer will generally last at least three or four months, depending on the type of beverage that is in the kegerator.
If beer isn’t your thing, we don’t judge. It’s not just beer that taste better on tap, all drinks taste better on tap. You can upgrade your kitchen or home bar by including cold brew coffee, tea, sodas, wine, whiskey and even cocktails on draft! Using barrel storage, dual, or triple faucet kegerator, you can pour a variety of beverages from one kegerator. Before embarking on getting a home kegerator, learn more about keg sizes, capacity, dimensions and most importantly, the number of beers you get out of a keg.

In this article we’ll be dishing out guidelines to walk you through all you need to know about this lovely art in the bottle called prosecco sparkling wine, including where it comes from, how its made ,and how to pair it with food.
WHAT IS PROSECCO WINE?
Prosecco wine is a sparkling wine that hails from Northeastern Italy, it is named after the Italian town of prosecco which is the suburb of Trieste. The grapes used in its production was originally cultivated in Slovenia, until 2009 when the Italian winemakers decided to rid the grape of its Slovenian roots and remarket the grapes as prosecco.
Prosecco comes in a wide range of styles, although the Brut and extra brut styles are by far the most popular. Brut simply indicates that the sparkling wine is dry, so if you’ve had a glass of bubbles that leaves your mouth puckering, chances are it’s a Brut.
3 common levels of a prosecco sparkling wine;
- Demi sec;
- Extra Brut; Another term for extra dry
- Brut; Dry and the most common prosecco style on the market.
HOW PROSECCO WINE IS MADE
Just like any white wine, prosecco is produced by CRUSHING, FERMENTING, and maturing grapes, hence creating alcohol. The producers do not employ the traditional method, instead they use what is called the tank method, or the Charmat method.
WHAT PROSECCO WINE TASTE LIKE AND HOW TO PAIR
Prosecco is all about those sharp fruity notes which dances on the tongue and leaves an incredible floral aromas which add to the tasting experience compared to champagne. It is commonly enjoyed in the dry or extra dry style. so if you want something fresh, fruity, and simple, prosecco is the way to go.
While the sparkling wine is often enjoyed as an appetizer, Our top pick for food pairing with prosecco would be brunch. Due to its sharp fruity flavour and high acidity, it pairs beautifully with spicy dishes and seafoods shared amongst friends, as a perfect way to kickstart the weekend.
The prosecco sparkling wine is best kept chilled and served in a tulip glass, or champagne flute.

Whiskey- Wooden casks for spirit maturation
The role “wood” plays in ageing and maturation of whiskey
Its no surprise that 60% to 80% of the total flavor in a whiskey whether scotch or bourbon, aged rum or tequila, is uniquely attributed to the oak in which it matures. Once the fermented wash is distilled, it is the decision of the master distiller to decide whether the new spirit has to be matured and aged, and which oak flavors to develop and try to attain.
Maturation and ageing of spirit is carried out in oak wood casks. Hence, there are different varieties of oak wood used to make casks. The process involved in the making of wooden casks starts from sourcing of oak, seasoning of oak, shaping of the cask by using staves, toasting & charring etc. The process involves harvesting of tall oak trees and then seasoning them by drying for six to eight months or more. Subsequently, the seasoned wood is cut into staves and shaped into a bulging cylinder and bound together by metal hoops in the cooperage. The head and bottom of the cask are flat and each is secured into the staves by a grove. No glue, paraffin, or nails are used in making barrels.
Below is the list of some of the important casks and their capacity used for the maturation of spirits covering whisky, rum, tequila, brandy and wines including fortified wines namely sherry and Port wine.
A British Barrel has a capacity of 160 liters whereas the American Barrel has the capacity of 200 liters.
A Firkin cask is a quarter size of the British barrel and has a capacity of 40 liters and used to store ale, whereas, a Quarter cask is a quarter size of the American Barrel and has a capacity of 50 liters and Scotch and American whiskey normally use this cask to get the intense oak finish.
A Hogshead has a capacity of 250 litres to 300 litres and is used to mature Irish and Scotch whiskey as well as wine and beer.
A Barrique is a type of a cask which has a capacity of 300 liters and is popularly maturing French wine and Cognac.
A Puncheon has a capacity of 450 litres to 500 litres and is used to mature Rum and Sherry.
A Butt has a capacity of 500 liters and used to store Sherry.
A Port Pipe is a tall cask and wide and rounder with a capacity of 650 liters and essentially used to mature or store Port.
A Drum has a regular capacity of 650 liters and used to store Madeira.
A Tun is roughly having a capacity of 980 liters and generally used for fermentation of beer.

Staying Innovative In The Beverage Industry
4 KEYS TO HELP STAY INNOVATIVE
Product innovation in the beverage space is crucial to business success, growth, profitability, and extension. While it seems like innovative ideas are widespread everywhere, there are several challenges to overcome on the road to bringing a new beverage idea to market. Some of the obstacles beverage innovators face include:
- A highly competitive market
- Fluctuating pricing
- Intense price competition
- Constant shifts in consumer demand and trends
- Increasing changes in the regulatory environment
In defiance of the challenges and difficulties, beverage innovation is still waxing stronger. In 2019, the three food categories with the most significant shares of overall new product introductions were beverages, snacks, and confectionery foods. Here are the fundamental principles that helped beverage companies bring successful new concepts to life.
Adopt an Innovation Mindset
Most of the biggest setbacks to innovation exist in the mind. Believing we have all the solutions and answers, repeating old patterns of thinking, and resisting change can make new ideas decay, and hence bring all the whole creative process to a halt. An innovative mindset is one of openness and creativity combined with curiosity and courage to explore the unknown. Innovators are resilient, they aren’t afraid to put big ideas out there, get feedback, make decisions, and keep moving forward.
Some practical steps for grooming a more innovative mindset include challenging your assumptions, consistently asking questions your rivals aren’t asking embracing, practicing brainstorming. Confidence is another essential feature of an innovative mindset. Believe in yourself and your team and what you intend to put out. Always Remember that creativity and innovation are not in-born skill; you can cultivate, and continuously improve on them with practice over time.
Know your Customer
The most successful beverages start with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the audience they want to communicate to. It’s more than just making assertions with just intuitive knowledge. Innovators invest plenty of time and effort in gathering quantitative and qualitative data about their target market. Understanding your market and the problem you’re solving for them is the backbone of successful product innovation. Use research, interviews, listening sessions, and feedback from customers to guide your approach.
Create Strong Partnerships
In the fast-paced world of beverage innovation, a “to act by ones self without assistance” approach isn’t the best growth method regardless of your big plans that are in view. Collaboration allows you to harness others’ strengths and abilities to scale your innovation process to solve new and complex challenges. Leaning into your core strengths, assessing your gaps, and supplementing them with wisdom and experience outside your company can move your idea forward faster and more efficiently than you could just on your own. Working collaboratively with partners generates energy that fuels growth, innovation, and creativity. Developing value-aligned partnerships with common goals and complementary strengths is a critical aspect of successful innovation.
Companies that excel at innovation have a composed and self assured approach to stand out from competitors, attract more customers and investors, and grow faster than companies that don’t. The next big idea can come from anywhere at any time. By improving your focus on innovation, you improve the odds that it will come from you.
Follow A Cohesive Process
Whilst innovation involves a great deal of open creativity, there is room for a structure to bring new ideas to life more efficiently and effectively. An innovation process merges existing and new findings together to bring about new marketable solutions and to achieve the set goal. Following a proven strategy for market innovation has several advantages:
- It prompts you towards action: A process gives you steps to follow to get out of ideation and into phases of action that push the idea forward.
- Increases efficiency through alignment: An innovation process gets everyone on the same page regarding what steps to take when, what the goals are, and who is accountable for each action.
- Reduces the risk of failure: A good innovation process integrates decision points that allow for decisions to be made earlier in the process. More frequent decision points help companies avoid unnecessary development costs that would not have led to results.
- Creates documentation for decisions and learning: The innovation process sets up a transparent and traceable path with criteria and measurable goals to achieve a shared vision of success.
